Mermaid on the Beach

For this commission, I was asked to create a cohesive mural for the client’s 10-year-old daughter. She wanted a mermaid, dolphins, palm trees and a beach- she’d even made a sketch of it!

I began by painting a tropical beach with waves as the setting. I made up the mermaid and posed her on a rock. So the rock would not be isolated, I added a few more trailing off into the water and added the jumping dolphins.

The mural wraps around the corner and I added a dolphin there. The palm trees were painted on both walls and angled inward to frame the mural and not obscure the subject. At the client’s request, I painted the palms onto the ceiling as well.
