Homage to The Big Chair and the Historic Anacostia Building

I was commissioned to combine two historic landmarks in Anacostia into one mural. I created a mural of the “BIG CHAIR” sculpture with the “ANACOSTIA BUILDING” by placing the building in the foreground at the bottom of the mural to anchor the image.

The “BIG CHAIR” was placed behind the building to indicate its’ location. I painted a soft, blue sky behind the chair and above the horizon line to indicate it’s large scale.

The painting was made as large as possible between the two windows keeping a margin of the wall color on both sides of the mural so it wouldn’t feel crowded. The dark cerulean blue wall color frames the mural and becomes part of a larger color scheme. The bottom of the mural is above the outlet so it would not interfere with the details.
