Fantasy Princess Castle and Landscape Mural

The client commissioned me to paint their daughter’s bedroom with a princess’s castle in a beautiful, fantasy landscape setting. To create their unique vision, I began with some surreal mountains, which imply a distant place. I then painted all the fantasy elements I could imagine; a castle on an island, a peacock, waterfalls, butterflies, fly agaric (red) mushrooms, butterflies, fairies, flowers Pointillistic florals and finished with a rainbow.

The castle is white and built from a variety of basic shapes. It is a mysterious place to imagine what might be happening inside. The castle is on an island, inspired by the poem, “If Once You Slept on an Island” by Rachel Lyman Field. In front of the castle is a sculpture of Cupid, the God of Love.
