Meet & Chat

We will plan a time to meet at the job site so I can see the space in person and we can talk about your vision together. Contact me.

Sketch & Estimate

I put together a quote and a sketch so that you can see the mural design. This is the best time for the client to request any changes.

Paint & Create

I paint and create a work of art while you enjoy your new enhanced environment and take photos to share with friends and customers.

MURAL PRICING

Pricing is on a project by project basis. I estimate how many days the mural will take and will present you with a quote that will include the cost of painting the mural and all additional supplies.

I don’t offer a price per square foot because the price depends on site complexities and the detail of each square foot. For instance, painting a white background doesn’t take as much time as painting trompe l’oiel or decorative faux finishes.

Here are the major factors that affect the price of a mural:

Complexity

How detailed will the mural be? If there are a lot of faces or intricate designs, this requires much more time and will be priced accordingly.

Size

How large is the wall? This is the clearest factor when calculating cost. A larger wall just takes more time to paint.

Access

How easy is it to access the wall? Is it 30 feet tall? Are there plants or uneven ground in front of the wall? Will we need to rent a scissor lift or boom? Complexities add time and cost.

Location

Where will the mural be painted? If the job site is outside of Arlington, Virginia, additional travel fees will be calculated.

Paint and Materials

Do you have specific paints and materials you’d like to use? Some specialty paints are expensive and can increase costs.

FAQs

If you have a question that isn’t listed below, please contact me and I’ll do my best to get you the answer. To view answers, please click directly on the questions below and the answers will appear below it.

How do I get started?

Contact me to request a project quote. I will set up a consultation call within the next week to discuss project details.

How long does a mural normally take?

Every project is different. On average most residential murals take a few days and commercial murals take a few weeks.

Do I need to paint and prep the wall first?

Wall color can often be incorporated into the mural. If necessary, I will help you choose the paint colors and can paint the wall for you.

Are the paints toxic?

I use paints that are the same as the latex paint used in your home. I mix them with high quality acrylic paint which are low VOC. For an additional fee, no VOC paints can be used.

Does Patrick draw sketches before the painting is started?

A very basic sketch is included in the estimate. Sketches can be done for an additional fee. However, on the first day of painting, I will sketch the mural on the wall and this is the only time to make any last-minute changes.

Do I need to be on-site while Patrick is painting?

It is best if you are on-site for the first hour of the first day of painting. However, it is not necessary for you to be on-site during the rest of the painting process.

Will Patrick travel to paint a mural?

I work throughout the Washington DC metro area. However, I will travel for an additional fee. We can discuss this further.

What qualifications does Patrick have?

I am a formally trained artist. I have a BFA from Columbus College of Art and Design and an MFA from George Washington University. I attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Skowhegan, Maine. Please read my about page for my complete resume.

Can Patrick work around my business hours?

If painting will interfere with your flow of business I can be flexible with my working hours. However, most clients enjoy watching the creation of the mural and I prefer to work during normal business hours.

How long does a mural last? Can a topcoat be applied?

Exterior and interior murals are painted with high-quality paint and will last as long as a typical latex paint. The pain will fade slightly over time, but most murals will last for decades. If the mural is in a high-traffic area a topcoat can be applied for an additional fee.

How and when do I pay?

A 50% deposit is due when the project date and schedule is set. The remaining 50% is due upon completion of the project. Payment can be made via cash, check, or online. We can discuss payment options further after you receive a project quote.
