Mountain Oasis Landscape Mural

I painted three projects in this new Fairfax County house; a landscape around the walls of the Sun Room and two half circle murals over opposite doorways in the foyer.

In the Sun Room, a painted landscape viewed through the architecture of the house, opening onto a veranda, is the focal point. The pillars with Corinthian capitals support a low and long arch as found throughout the house.

The veranda opens to still water with lilies, lily pads and mountains reflected into the lake. On the distant shore, a subliminal rainbow of colors describes the natural progression of space.

The mural moves around the room through the balustrade alternating with the tall, narrow windows. This mixes the painting and the outdoor reality in an amazing and unified way. The balustrade terminates in an area with a blossoming potted tree. The sky will carry the eye back again over a narrow arch.

The other two murals in this house are on opposite walls in the foyer. On one side, peacocks, the national bird of India, fit nicely into the arched composition. On the other wall is a copy of an image provided by the client of Krishna and his female consort drawing water.
