Black Lines

One of the most adventuresome projects I’ve ever been commissioned to paint. The client showed me a black line and requested that I make it the basis for the entire foyer space and upstairs area.

I was given the freedom to freely and without critique or condemnation interpret lines on a wall.

The client thought the lines were too thin. I widened them and ran the lines all over the wall surfaces to activate each area, unifying the varied wall surfaces with arabesques and sweeping gestural strokes.

The line is quirky, sometimes with the edge of a paper cut out. In the stairway, I hid the initials of the client.
