Great Falls Wine Cellar

This interesting wine cellar in Great Falls, VA is at the end of a wide hallway in the basement with a glass wall and door. Thus, the interior is seen from a distance down the hallway.

My design was made to utilize linear perspective in the painting with the actual perspective which occurs naturally in seeing the wine room. Thus, the perspective of the painting - the receding rows of grapes - continues the real perspective of the room, unifying the painting with the space.

To avoid a dull image, I made the terrain dip down in the middle ground and rise again further away. A dirt road running perpendicular to the rows divides the field and describes the terrain laterally. Mountains and sky finish the painting in the distance.

At the top of the painting, ripening grapes hang in the foreground anticipating the future enjoyment of a lovely glass of wine.
