Rousseau Inspired Children's Bedroom Mural
This mural was inspired by the French post-impressionist painter, Henri Rousseau and the client’s South African heritage. She requested a jungle mural for her children’s bedroom executed in his primitive style.
The scene with the elephant and two lions is a copy of a Rousseau. I filled in the rest of the room with a variety of other animals and plants in the same style including a mother zebra and colt as a symbol of family.
On one of the walls, a leopard rests in a tree above a rhinoceros in the bushes. The parent and child theme is repeated with two giraffes. Next at the watering hole are flamingos, a Cape buffalo and a hippo with a calf. Thus, the “Big Five” (rhino, elephant, buffalo, leopard and lion) and some other animals are represented in this children’s jungle mural.
